Soon after Airtel, Idea, Vodafone and RCom slashed national roaming tariff, Tata DoCoMo followed the suit by announcing as much as 75% reduction on roaming charges! “Tata Docomo customers will now pay less for both local and STD calls on national roaming. On roaming, for all outgoing local calls, now the customer has to pay 80 paise per minute from the earlier Rs 1 per minute,” Tata Docomo said in a statement.
Like other operators, Tata DoCoMo will charge Rs. 1.15 per minute for STD calls on roaming, as compared to earlier STD call charges of Rs. 1.50 per minute. “For incoming calls on roaming, the customer will be charged 45 paise per minute from the earlier 75 paise per minute,” the statement said.
Tata DoCoMo customers will now have to pay 25 paise per local SMS while roaming as opposed to Re.1 per local SMS charged earlier. Similarly, for STD SMS on roaming would now be charged for 38 paise, as compared to Rs.1.50 charged earlier.
Last month Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) passed an order that no telecom operator can charge more than 80 paise for local call, Rs 1.15 for STD call, 45 paise for incoming call on per minute basis from a customer during roaming in the country from May 1 onward. The regulator has also capped SMS charges at 25 paise for each local sms and 38 paise per STD or national SMS.
Telcos have option to charge lower than the TRAI prescribed charges, however all operators have preferred to stick to the maximum roaming charges issued by telecom regulator.
