Are you a BSNL mobile user? Do you roam frequently across India? If answer to both the questions is yes, then we have a good news for you! Union Minister for Communications, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad today announced that starting June 15, state owned telecom company BSNL will offer free roaming across India.
This revelation came while the Union Minister was briefing media on the achievements made by his ministry in last one year. He also added that full mobile number portability will be rolled out in July, once cabinet approves the spectrum sharing and trading policy.
The minister said that his department will also ensure that WiFi hotspots installed by BSNL becomes operational in major tourist destinations within next two years. Govt. has plans to set up as much as 2,500 WiFi hotspots across India this year alone.

Ever since NDA government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power in May 2014, it has promised free roaming. This promise will materialize on June 15, at least for BSNL subscribers.
Last month following TRAI’s directive on capping roaming charges, major telecom operators like IDEA, Airtel, Vodafone, Tata Docomo and Reliance slashed their calling and sms charges while roaming. BSNL was scheduled to introduce free roaming in January.
