By | October 18, 2013

Reliance Communication (RCOM) launched a new US roaming pack for it’s GSM postpaid customers on Friday. This pack named as Awesome America Pack claims to save you a hefty 98% on your data bill and upto 76 percent on voice calls made while roaming. This plan seems to be a move by telco to attract new high paying customers who are currently on premium networks like Airtel and Vodafone which provide seamless international roaming but at a hefty cost. This pack will cost you Rs. 849 for a period of 30 days.

“This is an extremely attractive plan designed to offer significant savings to all GSM post-paid customers on both data usage and voice calls during their stay in America,” Reliance Communications Chief Revenue Officer Nilanjan Mukherjee said.

As per the company customer will need to pay Rs. 10/MB of data consumption while roaming in US while the base tariff for the same is Rs. 614.4 per MB. Similarly the subscriber can make outgoing calls at Rs.40/min as opposed to existing base tariff of Rs.164/min.

As per Reliance communications over a million Indian tourists visit United States every year and company want them to stay connected with their loved ones back home on their Indian mobile numbers.

On the contrary even after these steep cuts taking a country specific SIM’s from service providers like Matrix makes sense as they provide more value for money. In fact some of their plans allow you to make unlimited calls back home to India. Another option is to go buy a local number and use it as long as you stay there.
