Not long ago Reliance Mobile was well known for its excellent CDMA network coverage across India. It seems now RCom is trying to revive its CDMA business with some attractive offers. Reliance Mobile is now offering free WhatsApp and Facebook usage on its CDMA network.
Prepaid Reliance CDMA users can start using Facebook and WhatsApp at no extra cost or STV recharges. Similarly, Reliance Mobile GSM prepaid customers can also avail free Facebook and WhatsApp, however, they need to recharge with some special denomination.
Reliance CDMA users are getting double benefit, first they don’t need to top up with any special denomination for activation of free Facebook and WhatsApp, and secondly the data packs on RCDMA are way cheaper as compared to RGSM. For example, a 4GB EVDO (equivalent of 3G on CDMA platform) pack costs just Rs. 246 in Delhi-NCR circle. This is way cheaper that Rs. 295 charged by likes of Airtel, Idea and Vodafone for just 1 GB of Data, that too without free Facebook and WhatsApp.
Reliance Mobile’s CDMA user base has been shrinking since last couple of years and this seems to be a move to attract more data customers. In March auctions, Reliance Mobile acquired spectrum in 800/850 MHz frequency band and will probably use it to provide pan India 4G services.
