MTS Mblaze Ultra WiFi dongle review

By | August 27, 2014

MTS the Russian telecom giant started offering its services in India back in 2008 using its CDMA network on 800 MHz frequency. It currently provides both voice services as well as data services in Delhi NCR, Kolkata, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh (West) & West Bengal telecom circles.

So today we are going to review the MTS Mblaze Ultra WiFi dongle for Delhi NCR circle and I can’t assure you of the same performance in other circles where MTS provides its services. It may be better or worse depending upon the network utilization, network strength and voice traffic in your area. To be precise we conducted all the tests in Dwarka, New Delhi and were receiving full EVDO network strength. Once you get you WiFi dongle plug it your wall charger and connect your PC, Laptop or mobile to it. Now type 192.168.1.1 in your browser and hit enter. You will be welcomed by a login screen enter “admin” both in username and password field. From here you will be able to see how many devices are currently connected to your MTS Mblaze WiFi Dongle, you can change your network name and lot more.MTS MBLaze Ultra Wifi Dongle

As you can see in the picture above MTS Mblaze Ultra Wifi dongle looks really sleek and attractive and it comes with WiFi functionality which allows you to connect up to 5 devices simultaneously. The product is nicely packed and contains installation guide, warranty card, user manual and quick start guide. This WiFi dongle works on the latest CDMA EVDO Rev B network which MTS proudly calls as its 3G plus network and promises to offer download speeds of up to 9.8 Mbps. In actual use we found it nowhere near 9.8 Mbps mark ever however it does performed decently most of the times.

We also found this device to be very user friendly and was really easy to use. To use in WiFi mode you need to either plug it in a wall charger USB port or you can plug it in you PC or Laptop USB port as well. Apart from that you can also connect directly with your PC, Laptop or Tablet using MTS app, however in this mode WiFi is not going to work.IMG_20140827_230553875

MTS Mblaze Ultra WiFi Connectivity:

To be honest we have been using this WiFi dongle since last one month and never experienced any problem while connecting even once! Our locality has excellent MTS reception and always receives EVDO signals. We just pop it in the USB charger as you can see in the picture above and it connects within few seconds without any problem all the time. If you  notice it has two lights on top of it one shows if WiFi is working or not and the second one indicates High Speed Data usage. I have used Tata Docomo Photon and even Reliance NetConnect but during peak hours in the evenings and especially on weekends they always have problem connecting in one go. But MTS has exceeded my expectation on the connectivity part and it has never disappointed me even during evening peak hours or weekends by connecting flawlessly in one go. I think MTS provides excellent connectivity by focusing on more lucrative data customers.

MTS Mblaze Ultra WiFi Speed:

Well MTS Mblaze Ultra has also surprised me with its good enough speeds. Initially there were few hiccups for 2-3 days but when I lodged a complaint their network team got into action and contacted me next day. MTS network team asked me about the problems faced and my exact location and by next day I started receiving average speeds of 2-2.5 Mbps during day time and 3-4 Mbps in night. This is really good if I compare it with 500 kbps I received during initial 2-3 days. If you think these speeds are slow then I would like to say that these speeds are almost constant throughout the day unlike some other data cards where speeds fluctuate a lot. I have attached one of the “MTS Mblaze Ultra Wifi Speed Test” screenshot for you.MTS MBlaze Speedtest result

I know these speeds are somewhat slow in comparison to 10-12 Mbps that you can receive on Airtel or Vodafone 3G sticks but MTS is providing value for money service with postpaid plans like Rs. 999. In this plan 999 you will get 40 GB of data for full one month and the dongle costs you about Rs. 1,500. So if you are one who wants decent and constant speeds at affordable prices then MTS Mblaze Ultra Wifi dongle could be the right fit for you.
