Idea Cellular to roll out 4G services across 750 towns in 2016

India’s third largest mobile operator Idea Cellular intends to launch 4G services in as much as 750 town across 10 Indian telecom circles by first half of 2016. The Adita Birla Group company made an announcement about the same on Wednesday. Company also has plans to start its branded digital services apps like Idea Music, Idea Games, Idea Movies and Idea Digital wallet.

The above mentioned digital services apps will mainly target regional and native language content. Idea Cellular will use 1,800 MHz frequency band spectrum to roll out its 4G services across India.Idea Cellular 4G services launch

The company disclosed that it acquired the 1800 MHz band spectrum required for roll out of 4G, during last two spectrum auctions conducted in February 2014 and March 2015 respectively. The circles where Idea is going to launch its 4G services include Maharashtra and Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Punjab, Haryana, Karnataka, Orissa, Tamil Nadu and North East.

Idea has a deep 2G penetration across rural areas for voice telephony, while it is constantly increasing its 3G footprint across major towns. With 4G launch, Idea will further augment its position as market leader and as a company which focuses on latest technology.

Idea Cellular will have to slog it out with rivals like Airtel and Aircel, which have already rolled out their 4G services in select regions. India’s second largest mobile operator, Vodafone will start its 4G services by December at least in Delhi circle. Reliance Jio is most likely to launch their 4G LTE network across India from December 2015.
