Chinese smartphone company Xiaomi has set its eye on European and US markets now. It has launched its online store selling Xiaomi accessories to US and European customers. As of now it remains an accessories only platform targeting premium Western markets.
To be precise, Xiaomi introduced it online store ‘mi.com’ in France, Britain and Germany on Tuesday, while it was thrown open for US customers a day before on Monday. Xiaomi is a very young company founded in 2010 by Chinese entrepreneur Lei Jun, and currently occupies the third position as largest smartphone vendor after Apple Inc. and South Korean giant Samsung.
Xiaomi has grown rapidly first in China and later in India by selling smartphones with flagship grade hardware coupled with budget prices. Now it is aiming for developed markets to further grow and challenge Apple and Samsung.
As of now, mi.com offers accessories such as a $14.99 MiFit fitness band, $13.99 10,000 mAh Mi Power bank, $79.99 Mi Headphones and another 5,000 mAh Mi Power bank is being offered for $9.99. This is the link for official Mi Online Store.
Xiaomi has plans to further expand its product range for European and US markets at a later stage. It is a dominant player in mainland China as it captured as much as 13.7% market share in the first quarter of 2015 behind only US rival Apple.
Xiaomi is fondly called ‘Apple of China’ and customers has been lapping up its devices such as Mi 4 and Redmi 2, which are sold at fraction of prices of a comparable Apple device.
