Popular instant messaging app Whatsapp is now available for Nokia Asha platform, starting with Nokia Asha 501.

Whatsapp is already available on older Asha phones running on older platform. Nokia Asha was released in May this year and will be the first phone to run whatsapp on Nokia Asha platform.

“Starting November 21, all Nokia Asha 501 users can download the IM (instant messaging) application through a software update,” the company said in a statement.

As per Nokia updated Nokia Asha platform will come bundled with Whatsapp in new Nokia Asha 501 handset which is scheduled to be released on December 5, 2013. Existing users can update the software through an over-the-air update.

Nokia said the new software also comes with a one-touch social sharing and a more intuitive home screen.

“Asha 501 will be the first device on the Asha Platform to support WhatsApp. The new interface comes with a single swipe camera, single touch share to Facebook and ability to track Facebook comments and likes right from your Fastlane screen,” Nokia India Director Marketing Viral Oza said.

Lately Whatsapp has seen huge addition in it’s subscriber base and even BBM released later last month seems to have no effect. Mobile companies now see Waatsapp to be next growth driver for their business and it is obvious from the way Nokia is ready to sell mobile pre installed with the popular IM app. WhatsApp currently has over 350 million monthly active users.
