Facebook of late is drifting away from social media towards your private space with the aquisition of Whatsapp few days ago. Continuing on the same trend company has started rolling out it’s messenger voice calling feature across different countries, with service now available in India. This feature was quitely delivered by company in a recent software update for the messenger. It has to be noted here that voice calling facility for facebook messenger was first rolled out in U.S. and Canada in January last year.
If you currently use facebook messenger app on your smartphone we advice you to update it to enable voice calling feature or you can download it from Google Play or Apple App Store. Currently only iOS and Android users can enjoy voice calling feature on facebook messenger, however Windows mobile and Blackberry customers will have to wait for some time to enjoy this service.
This facility allows you to make free unlimited calls to anyone on your facebook friends list provided they have also installed the messenger app on thier smartphone. You can use any data connection like 2G, EDGE, 3G or WiFi to make free voice calls and bear in mind data consumption is the only cost involved in this process. iPhone users will get a push notification in case somebody calls them on messenger, while Android users will get messenger calls in a way exactly similar to normal voice calls.
To make a free voice call to anybody on your friend list simply tap on the that contact not tap on the menu icon on the top right corner. Now a menu will appear which contains free call option. Tap on free call option to make a voice call to that particular contact. Similarly iPhone users can initiate a voice call by selecting a friend from their conversation list and tapping the three dots in the top right hand corner, which reveals a “Call” option.
