Motorola Mobility’s official twitter handle on Friday announced the roll out of Android 5.0 Lollipop update to Moto G and Moto G (2nd Gen) in India and US. The update will be released in phases, so you may or may not receive it instantly. Keep checking the update notifications on your Moto G for timely Lollipop update. It would be an over-the-air (OTA) update and it is advisable to properly charge you phones before tapping on “I’m in”. Last month we also reported “Moto X (2nd Gen) receiving Lollipop update in India“.
Please note that update notifications sometimes don’t work properly or at all in some of the devices, so it is better to keep checking for the updates manually as well. To check for the updates manually, all you need to do is follow the path Settings > About Phone > System Update.
The build number for the above stated Android Lollipop update is 220.21.28.en.03. The update brings with it host of features like much talked about Material Design UI, new notification controls, improved security to name a few. Earlier last month a user on XDA forum claimed that Moto G (Gen 1) is scheduled to receive Lollipop update and even posted screenshot to validate it. That screenshot carried a build number 220.21.16.en.03, but this update was never confirmed by Motorola and many believed it to be a soak test delivered to select few Moto G users.
Motorola announced this update on its official Google+ page as well. Apparently, Motorola has always remained at the fore front when it comes to timely software delivery, beating mighty rivals like Samsung, HTC and LG. Only Google Nexus devices or some limited Google play store editions get updates prior to Moto phones!
