Google Chromecast now available on Indian online retailers

Chromecast the digital media player device for HDTV’s developed by Google is finally available in India. It has been listed on ebay for INR. 3,998 and also available on Amazon India for a much lower price of INR. 3,099. More online retailers are expected to follow the suit soon. Google Chromecast is a wonderful device which hooks onto your smartTV’s HDMI port and plays any content from you smartphone (Android, iOS), computer (Windows, Mac and Chrome OS) and tablets.

Chromecast measure a small 2.83 inches and draws the necessary power from it’s microUSB when it’s connected to an external power source or a USB port. The device even allows you to make video playlists and also control TV volume. You don’t need to worry as you can simultaneously make calls, send SMS, surf web on your smartphones, tablets and laptops. Earlier people used to make do with smaller screens of their computers to view online streaming services like Hulu Plus, Netflix and Youtube but with advent of devices like Chromecast they can easily watch these services on bigger screens of their HDTV’s. Chromecast makes use of your Home or WiFi network to connect with your hand held device or computer and can cast the content from internet as well as content stored in your device. Basically Chromecast has two mode of operation first via Mobile app or Web app and second via “tab casting” which mirrors almost any content played on the Google Chrome web browser on your Laptop or Personal Computer.

The device was first announced on July 24, 2013 in United States for US $35 along with unlimited Netflix subscription for 3 months. The primary way of streaming content on HDTV is using mobile apps and web apps which control media selection, playback and volume. The Chromecast makes use of a local version of chrome browser to stream media on TV.

Chromecast is powered by a Marvell 88DE3005 (Armada 1500-mini) SoC, which includes codecs for hardware decoding of the VP8 and H.264 video compression formats. AzureWave NH–387 Wi-Fi handles the Wifi connection and supports 802.11b/g/n (2.4 GHz). It has 512 MB of RAM and a 2 GB of on board storage which can be used to store important files.

Third party websites like Amazon and Ebay have released Chromecast but the Google itself is yet to announce it for India.
