In a bid to bring back its dilapidated landline phone services to life, the state owned telecom player BSNL is now offering free pan-India unlimited night calling to any network. BSNL has announced that all of its landline phone customers, irrespective of the plan will be able to call any phone free of cost during night (9 PM to 7AM) from May 1.
Landline services have seen a rapid decline across the country since the advent of mobile services. Previously landlines were being ditched for voice calling and broadband was only reason for them to exist. But now a days HSPA, EVDO and 4G LTE data cards are here to completely wipe out landline phone service.
“This unlimited free night calling shall be available from 9:00PM to 7:00AM,” a BSNL statement said. The scheme covers all major landline general plans of rural and urban areas, landline special plans and all major combo (landline and broadband) plans.
“BSNL landline phone offers voice clarity. Now landline customers can make unlimited calls comfortably anywhere in India to all networks from 9:00PM to 7:00AM without paying call charges,” the statement added.
As per a recent TRAI report, BSNL which leads Indian landline market was biggest looser of landline connections and Airtel was the biggest gainer in the month of February. This report must be a major reason behind launching such an aggressive scheme by BSNL. Even after loosing out 1,62,556 landline connections, BSNL still dominated the landline market with 62.26% market share.
