ZTE Axon with dual-lens camera, 4GB RAM launched in US

After announcing the new smartphone line up dubbed as ‘Axon’ last month, Chinese phone maker ZTE has quickly followed up with launch of first device under brand in the US, called the ZTE Axon on Tuesday. The unlocked ZTE Axon can now be pre-ordered on the ZTE website and has been priced at US$ 449.98 (INR 25,524.20).

As of now ZTE Axon’s launch is limited to US only and company is yet to give details about its worldwide launch. A 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage powers the Android 5.1 Lollipop OS. The Axon comes all equipped with a stunning 5.5-inch display with QuadHD (1,440×2,560 pixels) resolution and protective Corning Gorilla Glass 3 covering.

The Qualcomm processor mentioned above clocked 2GHz, clubbed with Adreno 430 GPU and as mentioned before, 4GB of RAM. The USP of ZTE Axon is its dual-lens camera(13-megapixel + 2-megapixel), which is augmented with BSI CMOS sensor and dual-LED flash. The dual-lens camera allows the user to refocus on an object even after the image has been captured.

The rear camera is capable of recording videos in 4K resolution. The Axon also houses a 8-megapixel front facing camera, which can trigger a selfie as soon as you smile at it. The metal-clad ZTE Axon comes with 32GB of internal storage, while there is no option provided for external memory cards.

“We wanted to focus on the phone, not the brand,” Jeff Yee, ZTE vice president of technology and partnerships at ZTE USA, announced at the Axon’s launch event on Monday in New York City.

ZTE isn’t a household name in U.S., with Axon, company wants to equate itself with affordable luxury phone maker. Before Axon launch, ZTE was selling around 66 devices in partnership with various wireless carriers most of which have been designed in China. The ZTE Axon on the other hand is designed in U.S. and for the U.S. market.

On the connectivity front, the ZTE Axon offers 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, A-GPS, Wi-Fi, and USB. It measures 153.9×73.6×9.3mm, weighs 172.9 grams and is available in Ion Gold, Chromium Silver, and Phthalo Blue color options.

The smartphones audio boasts of Hi-Fi audio playback tech. It packs a 3,000 mAh non-removable battery, which is capable of delivering up to 12 hours of talk time and 240 hours of standby time on a single charge.
