Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has finally set its foot in India with the launch of Xiaomi Mi3 and 2 other smartphones. The other two smartphones are Redmi1S and Redmi Note which we will discuss in another blog post later. Xiaomi Mi3 will start retailing in India post July 22nd exclusively on India’s biggest online shopping portal Flipkart. It seems Xiaomi has taken a leaf out from Motorola’s book as it successfully sold Moto G, Moto X and Moto E on the same platform.
Priced at Rs. 13,999 Xiaomi Mi3 is the first device in India from the Chinese smartphone company. “We see India as a huge opportunity for us and are excited about bringing Mi products to this market. Just like in our other markets, we will strive to provide users with incredible value, and the best customer experience possible”, said Bin Lin, Co-founder and President, Xiaomi.
“We are looking to provide the best in class experience to our Mi fans in India. We are starting with 35+ service centres across top 20 cities, a hotline that operates 7 days a week, and a vibrant Mi India Facebook page. Our partner Flipkart, with its world-class technology and customer service, will be key to providing this experience”, said Manu Jain, India Operations Head, Xiaomi.
“Mi 3 is the fastest Mi phone ever. We are very excited to offer one of the world’s most powerful smartphones in India at an incredibly affordable price point of Rs. 13,999. We hope Indian users will love MIUI, our super intuitive Android-based operating system”, said Hugo Barra, Vice President, Xiaomi Global.
“This partnership is a natural progression of our promise to bring world-class products to our customers. We are a technology-focused company with innovation as part of our DNA – and this complements what Xiaomi stands for globally”, said Sachin Bansal, Flipkart co-founder & CEO.
Xiaomi Mi3 Specs Review
At an affordable price point of around US$ 250 or INR 13,999 Xiaomi Mi3 can give any flagship device a run for its money. Mi3 features a 5 inch full HD LCD display with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels which adds up to a pixel density of 441 ppi. Mi 3 runs on latest Android 4.4.2 Kitkat OS garnished with its custom MI user interface over it. It boasts of a 2.3 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor bundled with 2 GB of RAM. Its internal memory stands at a decent 16 GB which sadly is not expandable.
Mi3 is endowed with a 13 megapixel auto focus rear snapper and dual LED flash and a 2 megapixel front facing camera. One of a good plus point for Mi3 is its robust 3,050 mAh battery which will ensure enhanced talk time and back up. 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB 2.0 and NFC are connectivity options available on this handset. Xiaomi Mi3 will be available in Metallic Grey Color. If we carefully monitor the specs sheet of Mi3 it matches exactly with recently launched HTC One E8. In fact Mi3 has a more powerful 3,050 mAh battery as compared to 2,600 mAh battery found in HTC One E8 and there is a huge price gap of around INR 20,000 or US $350 between their prices.
