Apple Inc. has finally cracked a deal with Reliance Communications to offer contract phones in India. Reliance started selling Apple iPhone5S and iPhone5C 16 GB version from November 1st without any upfront cost. iPhone5S is up for grab at Rs. 2,999 per month and iPhone5C is available for Rs. 2599 per month. The sweetner to the deal is that for the 2 year lock in period you don’t need to pay for local or national calls, sms, 3G data and national roaming. In other words you get all of these facilities without any limitation.
But you need to own a credit card issued by ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank or Standard Chartered Bank in order to avail this offer. So the onus to verify the customer lies on the partner bank rather than RCom.
This is the first instance in Indian Mobile industry that some company is offering contract phone. Earlier most of the Mobile companies stayed away fearing that subscriber may dishonor his commitment by unlocking the phone and using it with some other service provider of his choice or simply selling it.
This offer will also help RCom build a good rapport with more of top spending postpaid customers which prefer networks like Airtel & Vodafone.
The 32GB version will come with an upfront fee of Rs 10,992 for 5s and Rs 11,600 for 5c in addition to the respective monthly charges. The 64GB model will be on offer for an upfront fee of Rs 19,992.
Reliance is offering users the choice of paying the entire sum in one go. It is offering a “discount” of Rs 6,000 and users can pay Rs 65,980 for the 16GB iPhone 5S and get the phone and two years of unlimited service.
