Motorola has made an impressive comeback with excellent devices like “Moto G” and “Moto X”, which boast of impressive features along with unbeatable pricing. Not content with its success Motorola has decided to launch an entry level smartphone on May 13 at two events in London and India. Last week Motorola started sending out invites to media across the world to attend these events. Motorola has come up with an interesting tag line for it’s latest device “Made to last and priced for all” which clearly conveys what Motorola has on it’s mind. The “Moto E” is a phone made for masses and particularly the emerging markets. Moto G is priced at US $179 which is a lot of money in most of the developing world. In Indian context Moto G is priced at INR. 12,500 and for Moto E to become the smartphone of masses it should be priced below INR 10,000.
It may be noted that Moto E is the alleged name for Motorola’s latest affordable device doing the rounds on web these days. Former Motorola CEO had once told media that company is working on a device way more cheaper than Moto G, prior to his departure from Motorola.
We expect Moto E to shake up the entry level smartphone segment with a Qualcomm processor, sturdy hardware and stock android experience. At present Micromax, Lava and Karbonn dominate the sub Rs. 10,000 smartphone segment with MediaTek processors, not so good hardware and android heavily layered with customized UI. So Motorola’s latest offering is a warning bell for local smartphone manufacturers to pull up the socks.
So let’s finally discuss what Moto E has to offer. As per the leaked specs sheet, a 4.3 inch qHD display will adorn the front which has a much better resolution than WVGA displays being offered in this segment. We expect Moto E to be water resistant similar to what Moto G and Moto X has on offer, as Motorola has promised it to be a rugged smartphone.

On the processor front, Moto E is expected to be powered by a 1.2 Ghz dual core CPU (probably qualcomm chipset) paired with 1 GB of RAM. On the storage front, we have been provided with 4 GB of on board storage which is obviously less. But don’t worry as you may expand the memory using a microSD card. As per the recent leaks Moto E would most probably be a dual SIM device and rightly so as consumers in this price bracket ask for dual SIM devices.
Moto E will probably have a 5 MP rear camera and front facing VGA camera. It will probably be powered by a 1,900 mAh battery and will run on Android 4.4.2 Kitkat OS. Moto E will be priced competitively in the range of INR. 8,000 to INR 10,000.
