LG Optimus G and Optimus G Pro to get Kitkat update soon

By | July 5, 2014

It’s been a while since LG got rid of the Optimus range of android smartphones and now it has decided to give some Kitkat love to these older Optimus models. Its older models namely LG Optimus G and LG Optimus G Pro are all set to receive the Android 4.4.2 Kitkat update by August and July end respectively. LG’s Brazilian unit had earlier announced few of the company’s older phones will get KitKat updates in the near future. Among other smartphones receiving Kitkat update are L7 II and dual-SIM G Pro Lite.

LG Optimus G was launched back in 2012 along with Nexus 4 and quickly became LG’s best selling smartphone by touching 1 million sales mark. It boasts of features like 4.7 inch display coupled with 3G connectivity, WiFi, 13 MP primary camera and GPS. It is to be noted here that this update is for international variant as the one sold by AT&T in U.S. market had already received the latest version of Google powered OS.

Some new features will be added and the some would be phased out, apart from this bugs found in the older version would be trashed. All this would translate to optimum smartphone performance and battery life enhancements. Some users have reportedly started receiving Kitkat update on their LG Optimus G Pro in India while some more Asian countries like Indonesia and Malaysia are expected to follow the suit.

If you are not sure about your device getting the latest Kitkat update then you may follow the path Settings > About phone > Software update. Good for LG!!!!! On the other hand, Samsung cancelled the 4.4.2 update for the galaxy S3. The optimous G and the S3 are from the same cicle. What does this means??? If you care about updates, buy LG rather than Samsung. Samsung is going to live you with an orphan phone after 18 months !!!!!

    Good for LG!!!!!

    • Hi Gino,
Yeah you are probably right. LG has been preferred hardware partner for Google to produce Nexus devices and that probably translates to quicker updates! It is really bad on part of Samsung not to deliver Kitkat to just 18 months old S3. I think they have become complacent thinking that customers will keep upgrading but there is a large group of people who keep their smartphones for 2 years or even longer.
