Lenovo Vibe X S960 Review: Killer looks with decent tech specs

By | February 20, 2014

Lenovo barely had a year since it entered smartphone market in late 2012 and since then it has launched some of the good handsets. Recently Lenovo acquired Motorola, Inc. from Google, Inc. and also took over IBM’s server business. So in a nutshell Lenovo is not another Chinese company producing cheap products in bulk. It is already a serious contender in personal computer space and with Motorola’s acquisition it is positioned to give threat to likes of Samsung and Apple.

Today we are going to review the latest smartphone from Lenovo’s stable i.e., Lenovo Vibe X. First thing that you will notice about this phone are it’s killer looks which makes it stand out of the Android crowd. It’s body is super slim at 6.9 mm and is ergonomically designed to give you superior feel and grip. Lenovo has managed to fit a 5 inch screen into a smartphone which barely weights 121 gm. This device has rounded corners thus helping you in one hand operation and also boasts of a laser etched back panel which gives a premium feel in hand.Lenovo Vibe X Review

Vibe X has a 5-inch IPS HD display with 1920×1080 pixel resolution and a pixel density of 440 ppi which results into brilliant picture clarity. Very similar to Apple’s retina display Lenovo is branding it as 20/20 vision which offers excellent text crispness and extremely accurate color reproduction. Viewing angles are really good which you may also check in the video review below and display is protected from scratches using Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

Vibe X has got 13 megapixel auto focus snapper with BSI sensor at the back which is capable of capturing decent quality pics both in day light as well as low light conditions. While it is equipped with a 5 megapixel front facing camera for video chats and taking perfect selfies. Note here that most of the smartphones have a standard 2 megapixel camera at the front and 5 megapixel camera at the front will enhance your video calls and self pictures.

Lenovo Vibe X comes with 16 GB of on board memory which cannot be expanded any further. Apart from this, Lenovo has provided us with an easy to use user interface or UI. Contrary to tapping on app drawer and then searching for your favorite app in Lenovo’s “SmartUI” you just need to swipe right or left from home screen to find all your apps and widgets. This basically reduces one annoying step of tapping on app drawer icon each and every time.

Vibe X draws it’s processing power from a MediaTek Quad Core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz coupled with 2 GB of RAM and runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.2 out of the box. What’s more the device is powered by a fair enough 2,000 mAh battery. This phone’s  back cover has really made a difference both in it’s appearance as well as weight. The silver and titanium black textured finish carry a mass appeal and poly carbonate makes it light and easy to carry.

Another feature that stands out for Vibe X is it’s SECUREit feature which is acts both as a privacy control and Anti-Virus software. It regularly scans your device for any threat and also lets you control which information a particular app has access to or not. Some analyst’s are not happy with the performance of Vibe X despite it having a quad core processor but historically sleek phones have to give up on performance and it is up to you to decide if you are happy with just above average performance with killer looks or want a not so cool looking phone with top notch performance.
