Lava Iris 504Q+ launched: Features, Price and Specs review

By | April 19, 2014

Lava mobiles yesterday launched Iris 504Q+ smartphone which is successor to it’s Iris 504Q smartphone launched last year. With the launch of this smartphone Lava has added one more device to it’s long lineup of quad core smartphones. Company has pegged the price of Iris 504Q+ at INR 13,999 which is somewhat over and above what competition is charging for these features. Apart from these features Iris 504Q+ is pleasing to look at and is quite sleek as well. Some people may not like it’s slim boxy looks but it may very well get praises for the same. In fact it’s distinct design sets itself apart from it’s predecessor Iris 504Q.

Lava Iris 504Q+ has definitely improved upon it’s predecessor specs wise, but does this specs upgrade makes this phone worthy enough to be purchased. Now let us discuss various attributes of this smartphone which will help you make a decision. We would go through various aspects to see if this phone fits your bill or not.Lava Iris 504Q+ specs review

Processor and OS:

Iris 504Q+ is powered by a MediaTek quad core CPU which clocks at 1.3 Ghz coupled with Mali 400 MP2 @500MHz GPU. Multitasking therefore will not be a problem on this device and a Mediatek MT6582 chipset is likely to house this assembly. This chipset also has 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of on board storage of which only 5.33 GB would be available to end user. Phone’s memory can be increased by 32 GB using an external microSD card. This device runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS and there is no word about it getting any Android 4.4 Kitkat update soon.

Following its predecessor’s footsteps Lava Iris 504Q+ also sports a 5 inch IPS HD touchscreen which delivers 1280X720 p resolution. The display also comes with OGS or One Glass Solution technology which reduces display’s thickness. Lava has also employed a Dragontrail glass to make this device scratch and scrape resistant.

A 10 MP camera sits at the rear panel and it makes use of Sony Exmor RS sensor which further makes use of “stacked structure” to capture more clearer and compact pictures. In addition to that rear camera supports features such a scene detection, tuning, HDR, geo-tagging, face detection, low light picture enhancement, panorama and more. If you like taking selfie and making video calls than a 2 MP camera adorns the front panel.

Well we are somewhat disappointed with the battery employed in this handset. It’s Li-Po battery has a capacity of 2,000 mAh but considering a 5 inch touchscreen and a quad core processor this might proove to be insufficient. But if you are a moderate user than some tweaks can easily make this battery go for one full day.

 Our Take:

No doubt that Lava Iris 504Q+ is a decent smartphone and has an upper hand over it’s predecessor with some key highlights like gesture and voice controls which allows you to do things like click pictures, play videos etc without even having to touch the screen. But price of INR. 13,999 or US$ 230 seems to be on a higher side when compared with competitors like Panasonic P31 and Motorola Moto G which have much better specs as well as priced cheaper. We rate Iris 540Q+ 3 on a scale of 5.
