Recently, WhatsApp announced its plans to allow users to use its mobile messaging services from Desktop, Laptop or any other personal computer as well. This is great news for people who are mostly busy working on computers, having very little or no time for their smartphones.
Using WhatsApp for web messaging service, users will be simultaneously able to log in to WhatsApp using their smartphones, desktop, tablet and laptop. But unfortunately iPhone users have been left out of this service. However, if you own a smartphone that runs Windows Phone, Android, Blackberry or Nokia S60 OS, then you are good to go with web based WhatsApp service. WhatsApp, which is owned by Facebook has around 700 million monthly users, which is soon expected to cross the 1 billion mark. So without wasting much time lets see “how to use web based WhatsApp messaging service”.
Method to use WhatsApp on your PC
Step 1: It is a must to have Google Chrome browser installed on your PC/desktop/laptop to use web based WhatsApp service on it, so first of all install Google Chrome browser from here.
Step 2: After downloading Chrome browser on your computer, visit https://web.whatsapp.com/ and a website looking something like picture below will open up.
Step3: Pick up your smartphone and open WhatsApp. Now tap on the three dots on top right corner and again tap on “WhatsApp Web”. Simultaneously click on the QR field in the website to activate QR code.
Step 4: Now WhatsApp will scan the QR code displayed on the website. To successfully scan the QR code face the rear camera towards the desktop, so that the QR code lies within WhatsApp’s scan field as shown in the screen shot below.
Step 5: After your smartphone successfully scans the QR code the website will magically open up your WhatsApp account and you will be able to chat with your contacts even on your computer. Whats more! Well if you go out and recall that you forgot to log out from the desktop then you can simply log out from all the computers as shown in the screenshot below!
To successfully use the web based WhatsApp client these two things are important. First thing is, your WhatsApp application must be updated to the latest version. The older version of the app does not support QR scan capabilities and is hence incompatible. When you click on the 3 dots settings and ‘WhatsApp Web’ doesn’t show up, that means you have an older version installed. So you first need to update it to the latest version from your respective app store.
Second important thing to note here is the QR code scanning. You must properly scan the QR code displayed on the website as it communicates all the details of your WhatsApp account. So scan the QR code properly to ensure smooth log in.
