Hello friends, Yesterday I encountered a problem with my wordpress blog. I had installed a plugin Yet Another Related Posts Plugin but somehow it was not showing any thumbnails in the the related post links. Then I went to official WordPress forum to fix this problem and I found a thread where the plugin (Yet Another Related Posts) author was recommending the use of auto post thumbnail plugin in order to show thumbnails in the related posts. I straight away went to my wordpress blog dashboard and installed Auto Post Thumbnail plugin and everything started working fine. My related post links were showing thumbnails.
The problem started after 15 minutes of installing it. I opened my blog home page and noticed that post excerpts were showing 2 different thumbnails. One was originally there because of thumbs excerpts plugin but second came from nowhere. Then I figured out that Auto post thumbnail has created this extra thumbnail in post excerpt. So I simply went to installed plugins section in dashboard and deleted the Auto post thumbnail plugin. To my surprise the second thumbnail was still there intact even after removing the plugin.
Now the real problem surfaced as I was unable to remove the extra thumbnail from post excerpt which was looking really unprofessional on my blog homepage. Finally I though of going to FTP files and delete the thumbnails manually. I logged into my hosting account with godaddy and as an experiment deleted one of the thumbnail created by Auto thumbnail plugin and checked my homepage again. This time image was gone but a hollow space was left with a hyperlink to the blog post. This looked even more uglier. I went through wordpress forum to find a solution but nothing came in handy.
Finally I found a way to remove thumbnails created by Auto post thumbnail plugin. I went to edit one of the post and noticed that the post had a featured image enabled and I removed that featured image by clicking on remove featured image link. After that I saved the post and went on to see the blog home page and to my surprise the extra clumsy thumbnail was gone. I repeated the same steps with other posts and all the thumbnails created by auto post thumbnail were removed. Finally I went to my FTP account and removed the extra thumbnails from there (although this is not a mandatory step).
This post proves one thing that before installing any plugin read each and every thing related to it. It might not bring the desired results you may have thought of. By the way Auto Post thumbnail author provides the remove thumbnail option in his paid version of the plugin. Do comment with your feedback and experience with this tutorial.
