How to download YouTube video on Android or iPhone?

YouTube is world’s largest video based search engine, which caters to billions of viewers everyday. Late last year, YouTube allowed app users to download videos on their smartphones. You can spot a download icon in the bottom right corner of the videos, which are available for download.

This move more or less looks like an attempt to deepen YouTube’s penetration in developing markets like India, Brazil and China etc, where access to fast internet is not that prevalent. So without much ado, lets get straight to downloading YouTube video on Android or iPhone smartphone. It’s a very simple task and we have summarized it in the picture above for your convenience. However, we will write a step by step tutorial below as well.

Step 1: Launch the YouTube app from your iPhone or Android smartphone and search the video you want to download and watch later.

Step 2: Once the video opens up, you can easily spot as download icon in the bottom right corner below video. Just tap once on the download icon.

Step 3: Now you will be asked to select your video resolution preference. Select the resolution keeping in mind your remaining data balance, otherwise you may end up consuming main balance of your SIM card.

Step 3: Now the video is being downloaded on the local storage of your iPhone or Android smartphone. The same if visible in screenshot attached above.

YouTube has introduced a new “Available Offline” section under your profile tab in app itself. Whenever you need to watch a saved video just go to the “Available Offline” section and enjoy your favorite video without data.

Well not every video is available for download from YouTube app, most of the movies and music videos fall under non-downloadable category. Moreover, the downloaded videos can only be watched within YouTube app only.

Recently, video subscription service “YouTube Red” was launched for US based subscribers for $9.99 a month. The new premium service allows one to watch all YouTube videos without any ads and will soon offer exclusive video content as well.
